Rolex Submariner at Tourneau — “$580” — Vintage Print Ad, c. late 1970s

“Automatic, stainless steel. Pressure proof to 660 ft. Rotating elapsed time bezel. $580.”

The Submariner, drawn by hand with notes in script, sold on Madison Avenue for $580. Back then that was the fine print. Now it’s the headline.

Dog Ear Note: Tourneau opened its first store at 49th and Madison in 1930. In 2005 its Las Vegas shop set a Guinness record as the world’s largest watch store.
