Vulcain
Vulcain 17 Jewels Date, Hand-Wound — c. 1960s
“Sold the world over since 1858.”
Black dial with gilt baton markers inlaid in orange, a red crosshair, and a date window at three. Gold-tone case over a stainless steel back, stamped Swiss Made and Antimagnetic. Hand-wound, 17 jewels, running. Vulcain made the Cricket alarm watch that ended up on presidents’ wrists. This is its quieter everyday sibling, now on a green leather strap.
Dog Ear Note: The Cricket, launched in 1947, was the first wristwatch with a truly audible alarm. Harry Truman reportedly never took his off.
